Does SMP Help With A Botched Hair Transplant?
Getting a hair transplant is a big deal. It’s quite involved, costs an awful lot of money to get done and takes time to find out whether it has worked as well as you hoped for. A botched hair transplant can have a massive impact on your confidence and leave scarring. We’ve seen a few clients come to us for help, asking for SMP to help cover the damage that a botched hair transplant has done to them.
How does a hair transplant work?
There are two main types of hair transplants, FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). The FUT method takes a strip of skin from a donor site at the back or sides of your head where the hair is naturally fuller and less likely to bald. Tissue from this skin contains hair follicles, which are separated and prepared for transplantation. Grafts are then placed into tiny holes in the recipient site where you are experiencing balding. It can take many hours to complete this type of hair transplant and it will always result in horizontal scarring where the grafts have been taken.
The FUE method involves the harvesting of hair follicles from a donor site on the back of the head, but it doesn’t involve removing a strip of tissue. Instead, hair follicles are collected directly from the scalp and inserted into small holes in the recipient site. This technique is a little more detailed than FUT and therefore might take longer in surgery. The idea though is that the scarring is not as pronounced.
SMP for bad hair transplant
Not every hair transplant is a success. In the same way that poor SMP is due to a lack of skill and experience in the practitioner, the same can be said of a botched hair transplant. If you have suffered from a bad hair transplant, that either hasn’t worked as well as you would have liked or left pronounced scarring, it is only right that you seek help you recover from the problem. SMP for botched hair transplants can help to cover the affected area in a way that leaves you with a realistic hair loss solution.

Why do people seek SMP after a hair transplant?
There is no guarantee of success when it comes to having a hair transplant. We’ve seen people come to us who have had more than one hair transplant and still don’t have the density of hair that they were hoping for. In these situations, it can feel disheartening, but it is good to know that a hair tattoo is a viable option to help thicken out the appearance of hair and ensure that you feel comfortable in how you look.
Covering the donor area
The donor hair for a hair transplant often comes from the sides and the back of the head, and when this has seen maximum harvest, you are left with visible scarring and thinning hair in this area of the head, even if the top of your head has been successful in the hair transplant process. SMP helps to cover this area to make it blend in with the rest of your head of hair, in a natural, realistic way.
Covering transplant scars
Hair transplant scars can be a tricky customer to cover up for SMP practitioners. It takes a lot of training and practice to become skilled enough to make this work, and luckily for you, Craig has this experience to make a big difference to the problems you’re having with scars.
Filling in the gaps after a hair transplant
The most popular choice for clients of ours who have had a hair transplant is to look at a hair tattoo as a complementary procedure that helps a hair transplant look great. Some people come to us to have SMP during the time they are waiting for a hair transplant, filling the gap until the transplant takes hold (or not), or always with the intention to add to the density that they expect from a hair transplant.
